A review of Rock-A-Boom Records by Alex written on Sunday 24th of January 2010
Rock-A-Boom Records is a splendid shop nestled away in a quiet borough in Leicester City Centre. Positioned down a back alley, not enough people know of the shop. It is a terrible shame, because Rock-A-Boom is a fantastic place for fans of music that can't be purchased at the big mainstream corporate places like HMV.
Scarcely is there a new release that Rock-A-Boom doesn't have in stock. They specialise in the obscure bands that some haven't even heard of, and this is one of the reasons why I love them. The fellow on staff - although his name escapes me - is a musical expert who genuinely seems to love his job, and every CD that he sells he seems to have prior knowledge about. It's this kind of dedication that makes shopping in Rock-A-Boom such a joy. From the Animal Collective to the White Stripes, music of all kinds can be found in this small little shop.
It is my favourite place to go every time I am in the area, and I always leave with a handful of new CDs to listen to. Rock-A-Booms prices are fantastic, with new releases being a maximum, usually, of ten pounds and old classics being as little as four or five. With a twenty pound note you can walk out with four new, brilliant CDs; nowhere else that I can think of in Leicester can provide this opportunity.
Yes, I am a music-nut and I realise that the average person may not wish to buy CDs in bulk like I do, but for rare CDs that I cannot purchase elsewhere, for the positive atmosphere within shop, and for the large collection of new releases and old, Rock-A-Boom remains a fantastic place to shop for all of your music needs..
