Prior to my apprenticeship as a commercial artist in 1950, I lived a few yards away from our Baker in Fairfax Rd, Mr White, his son Lloyd was my friend. I designed signs for his shop. He was very strict and when close to his cakes, always ordered to swallow a cough. Mr Coombes took over the business and I had my first client, followed by Basil Richardson, the potential driving force of EESmith Barfitters who lived almost next door. I continued producing designs for them during my 5year apprenticeship. Happy Memories. Carl Reilly.
