"MARRIAGE AT THIS CHURCH ALMOST 50 YEARS AGO"

A review of St Andrews Anglican-Methodist Church by Beryl Baigent written on Thursday 9th of August 2012

I am not sure that I am on the right site. We were married on January 19, 2012 at the Methodist Church on Hinkley Road, in the city of Leicester, by the Rev. Ronald Tucker and it will be our 50th anniversary next year. Rev. Tucker was the minister of the Methodist church which we attended on King Richard's Road, but this church was having a face-lift at the time.

Our names are Beryl and Alan Baigent and we have lived in Canada, which is where my husband was born and where his parents lived when he came to the Midlands on an Overseas Scholarshipo to do his apprenticeship at various Associated Electrical Industries, after gaining a BSc in Engineering at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario.

We have lived in Thamesford, twelve miles from London since we built our house here in 1964 and our three daughters were born here. I came to Leicester from North Wales and have been fortunate to make a visit "home" most years. In the last twenty years I have also been a member of The Welsh Academy (now Literatue Wales) and have given readings and workshops based on my poetry. I also have fourteen published books of poetry, some of which have been launches in Wales and England.

I would be interested to know if the Methodist Church has amalgamated with the Anglican church or is the former Hinkley Road church in fact a different one than the one I remember. We still have a reel to reel recording of our wedding ceremony which includes hyms which my future parents in law chose for the occasion as they could not be with us.
