Perched astride the river Soar, Leicester is home to nearly 300,000 residents, making it one of the UK's larger cities.

The surrounding Leicestershire countryside is very beautiful. The National Forest stretches from the outskirts of Leicester to Burton-on-Trent, encompassing 200 square miles in all. The National Forest's visitor centre, Conkers, is about 15 miles North West of Leicester by the village of Moira.
Charnwood Forest is a picturesque, rocky upland tract in north-western Leicestershire with extensive woodland, noted for its beautiful displays of bluebells in the Springtime.
There are several large cities just a short drive away from Leicester - Coventry, Birmingham, Derby, Nottingham and Peterborough - and many towns. Coventry, to the South East, is the nearest city, while Britain's second most populous city Birmingham is under an hour's drive and has a great many attractions.
